Bournemouth number one destination for UK stags

Bournemouth number one destination for UK stags: Image 1 Bournemouth has been named the UK's number one pre-wedding getaway for stag dos following an analysis of recent sales data from hen and stag experts Red7

The figures revealed it's five times more popular than London - Bournemouth accounted for 16 per cent of stag bookings in 2018 - while the capital trailed behind at a mere three per cent.

Stag travel to Bournemouth has established itself as a solid trend. The southern resort town has been the nation's number one stag destination for two years in a row, attracting the same percentage of bookings in both 2017 and 2018. Coming in at second and third were party hubs Liverpool and Brighton, which both attracted 11 per cent of bookings in 2018, giving Bournemouth a clear five per cent lead.

The top five UK cities for stag dos in 2018 were:
1. Bournemouth
2. Liverpool
3. Brighton
4. Bristol
5. Newcastle

The data also revealed Bournemouth rivals some sun-soaked destinations abroad – four times as popular as Magaluf and almost twice as popular as Ibiza.

Sarah Chapman, head of hen, stag and 'sten' at Red7, commented, “After a decade of reinvention as a party hub, Bournemouth has leapt in popularity to hit the top of the list of the UK's stag destinations.
“Warmer weather led to a big increase in domestic travel in 2018 compared to 2017, with half of our stags choosing to holiday in the UK rather than travel abroad.
“Travel to Bournemouth is far cheaper than flights abroad, but it still boasts the Blue Flag and friendly atmosphere that Brits love on holiday.
“In fact, Bournemouth enjoyed 8.8 hours of sunshine per day in the summer, some days beating the temperatures in overseas favourites Ibiza and Greece.
“An ever-increasing range and quality of activities has driven stags to the UK coast, with average group sizes of 12.8 and an average spend of £178 per stag, or £2,277 per group, you get a lot for your money and some great quality, centrally located hotels.
“Escape rooms and physical activities like quad-biking, bubble football and coasteering are popular, as well as the firm favourite: The Unlimited Weekend Bournemouth Bar Pass!
“The UK's first 6D cinema experience keeps Bournemouth ahead of the game - stags can stimulate their senses while viewing an incredible movie at a world-class 6D cinema. “It's a vibrant, safe and friendly city with a fantastic mix of outdoor and indoor activities, restaurants and nightlife. No wonder it's number one with the nation's stags!”
