Tylney Hall Hotel & Gardens hosts autumn experiences this October

Tylney Hall Hotel & Gardens in Hampshire

As summer gives way to crisp mornings and russet woodland, Hampshire's Tylney Hall Hotel & Gardens hosts October events.

Set amid 66 acres of parkland and gardens in the Hampshire countryside, this Grade II listed country house with an old-world sense of grandeur is tucked away in Hook, within easy reach of Basingstoke and the M3 and M4. It strikes an appealing balance between rural seclusion and easy access.

In autumn, the estate is at its most atmospheric as the woodland turns russet and gold, the air sharpens and the gardens become a quietly beautiful backdrop for a country-house escape. This October, it's set to host a series of seasonal events.

On Thursday 8th October, visitors can take a guided tour of the estate's gardens, led by the Gardens & Estates team, with an opportunity to discover their history and restoration, including the influence of celebrated garden designer Gertrude Jekyll. Afterwards, diners can retreat to the Lounge for a traditional Afternoon Tea, accompanied by a charming plant gift to take home. Tickets cost £57 per person.

On Thursday 22nd October, guests can step into a world of intrigue for an evening of dining and deception, as a Murder Mystery Night unfolds over dinner. Party-goers can put their detective skills to the test as they question suspects, follow clues and attempt to solve the whodunit before the evening draws to a close. Dress to impress and come prepared for a night of delicious food, intrigue and a little theatrical mischief! Tickets cost £95 per person.

From 3rd October to 8th November, head to nearby National Trust property, The Vyne, for Stranger Folk, a magical digital adventure designed for children aged seven to 12 years. Played through a mobile app as visitors explore the estate, the story sees goblins, beggars and mysterious Stranger Folk slip between the human and spirit worlds, with young adventurers tasked with harnessing the elements and sealing the rift before it's too late.

On Saturday 31st October, Jane Austen's House in nearby Chawton will host a Twilight Tour: Halloween Special, inspired by Austen's playful Gothic novel, Northanger Abbey. Guests can explore the rooms where the novel was revised and edited, while discovering the objects, portraits and books that illuminate its characters and themes, alongside a look at traditional Hallowe'en beliefs and customs. It's a suitably atmospheric way to experience Austen's former home - and one of her most mischievous novels - after dark. Tickets cost £19.50 per person.

Make the most of Tylney Hall Hotel's Perfect Autumn Pause: up to 20% off dinner, bed and breakfast. The offer includes overnight accommodation, a cooked and continental breakfast, £50 per adult to spend on dinner, and residential access to the Health Club and scenic grounds. Stays are available from 1st September to 30th November 2026, based on two adults sharing a Superior Classic Bedroom and above and subject to availability.
