September/October 2019

As we’re soaking up the last vestiges of summer sunshine, it’s fair to say we’ve enjoyed the usual mixed bag of Great British weather with a few hotter-than-Hawaii days as well as the customary rain. So as the last embers of summer fade into autumn we look back with a last hurrah to the season on page 63 where we feature a glorious styled shoot showcasing the talents of local suppliers and beautiful coral tones, one of this year’s hottest hues.

Although I’m always a little down when summertime’s over, I soon perk up when all the colours start changing. It’s a wonderfully romantic time of year, perfect for taking time out from the wedding planning to relax and enjoy the great outdoors before the hectic festive period and bleak winter weather kicks in.

There’s rich pickings to be had too for autumn-themed weddings. Hampshire and Dorset are blessed with plenty of glorious countryside and forests, so why not grab your partner, pull on your wellies and head out? Be inspired by nature’s bounty for your big-day palette and turn to page 69 for our showcase of autumn colour mood boards.

There’s a wealth of natural material available too at this time of year. Think shiny conkers, twigs, brambles, ornamental gourds in different shapes and sizes, pumpkins and richly coloured blooms like dahlias and chrysanthemums. To find out what local experts have to say on making the most of the season, turn to page 109.

As well as wonderful seasonal ideas, this issue is packed with latest trends and top tips for all things wedding-related from bridal fashion and local venues to fun hen and party ideas to see off your single days in style.

Enjoy!

Nothe Fort

If you’re on the hunt for something out of the ordinary for your big day, this is it. Weymouth’s historic Nothe Fort on the Jurassic coast is perched on a promontory overlooking the sea. Built by the Victorians to protect Portland Harbour, it’s steeped in history and is one of the best preserved forts of its kind. The setting and photo opportunities are second to none with 360° panoramic views of the bay and harbour. Built on three levels it’s surrounded by the beautiful Nothe Gardens full of trees, shrubs and winding paths. Licensed for weddings you can marry in the Engine Room with up to 80 guests. For more intimate gatherings there are a host of quirky spaces for your ’I dos’ including the Gun Deck, Lookout and the Search Light which can accommodate up to six people with 50 more seated on the terrace. After tying the knot, head off to the Fort View Cafe to celebrate or if you’ve invited a crowd, you can host a marquee reception on the Parade Ground with 250 family and friends. The Fort Artillery will even perform a special firing of the canon in your honour.
