September/October 2020

There’s one thing about working in the world of weddings, even in the depths of a global pandemic, there’s always something to smile about. We’ve been inspired by stories of suppliers and venues going above and beyond to help couples cope with the disappointment of having to postpone their big day. Businesses have been busy behind the scenes, staying in touch via video calls and sending out messages of reassurance to keep all you newlyweds-to-be out there excited for your big day to come. Now as the first rays of light start to appear at the end of the tunnel, we bring you not three but four real weddings to reboot the feelgood factor. Let’s face it we could all do with an extra dose of joy, so we’re delighted to share with you Sarah and Freddy’s post-lockdown wedding at the Abbey Church, Beaulieu, complete with radiant bride, beaming groom, some great hats and social distancing too. Turn to page 49 to find out more.

Spreading the love, we showcase a whole world of fun activities available in the region for those all-important pre-wedding celebrations. Everything from chilled afternoon tea with your best girls to archery in the New Forest, flip to page 57 for the full lowdown. Bridal boutique owners are also on the case with help and advice on finding the one, so if you’re on the hunt for your dream dress, don’t miss their top tips starting on page 69.

As well as all the regular must-reads, this issue is packed with great venues, ideas and inspiration to keep you on track and don’t forget to get in touch for the chance to have your wedding featured in the magazine.

Enjoy reading!

St Giles House

If you’re on the hunt for a one-of-a-kind backdrop for your big day, this ancestral home in the Dorset countryside is hard to beat. A labour of love, the historic landmark has been sensitively restored, breathing new life into the historic building. Be prepared for plenty of stop-stare moments from the instant you arrive and catch your first glimpse of the place. Set in beautiful private parkland, surrounded by an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the award-winning venue sits in perfect harmony with the natural landscape. Grand, yet intimate and inviting, think sumptuous interiors, marble fireplaces and ancient leather-bound books.

The house has been in the same family since the 15th century and has evolved over the generations to the treasure it is today. Licensed for ceremonies for up to 120 guests, you can take your pick from a number of fabulous rooms, all beautifully decorated or Wimborne St.Giles Church is just next door.

Celebrate afterwards and enjoy the run of all the main rooms for the reception, spill out on to the terrace and make the most of the glorious garden. The library, with velvet-lined walls and floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, is ideal for the wedding breakfast and, come the evening, you can party the night away with up to 200 friends and family in the venue’s award-winning basement club, complete with state-of-the-art light and sound system. There’s luxury on-site accommodation in the 17th-century stables; perfect for staying the night before and after the wedding. What’s more, as the icing on the cake, the family’s 1947 DE36 Daimler car is available to hire too – how’s that for a once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity?

Why your Will is a priority after marriage

Why your Will is a priority after marriage

After the highs of your wedding day, it's highly unlikely for your mind to turn to something altogether more serious like yours and your spouse's Will. However, drawing up a Will or, for those entering a second marriage or had a Will in place before the Wedding, getting it updated and put back in place is absolutely vital. Without it, your inheritance could end up in the wrong hands and not where you'd hoped it to be, with your loved ones.
