November/December 2021

Christmas is coming, that’s for sure! What’s more, at the time of writing this, things were looking positive for plenty of the festive cheer with family and friends that we’re accustomed to. Although we don’t like to count our chickens (or should I say turkeys) before they hatch, since restrictions were eased, the floodgates have opened and 2022 looks set to be one of the busiest years for weddings in decades!

With the Christmas and New Year proposal season likely to add to the surge, we’re looking forward to bringing you lots of lovely local weddings to inspire and excite you in the months ahead. The ripple effects of the pandemic will be felt for some time and will influence wedding trends moving forward. Increased demand for weekday and outdoor weddings is likely to continue, along with greener more sustainable options for the big day.

Many of the important things about getting married have been brought into sharper focus too, like the vows and individual, special details such as handmade items to add that extra personal touch. To check out just some of the talented local suppliers offering bespoke ranges, turn to page 57. Don’t miss our gallery of wonderful wedding photos on page 51 either, to see how to make the most of your big-day backdrop.

Packed with all the usual bridal fashion, beauty tips, honeymoons, inspiration and more, we’re excited for all the wonderful weddings to come!

Have a very merry Christmas, see you in 2022!

The Elvetham

This country house hotel is sure to impress from the moment you arrive down the tree-lined driveway. Nestled in the middle of 35 acres of lovingly tended gardens and grounds, the impressive 19th-century red brick building boasts a central tower over the main entrance providing the perfect backdrop for standout photos.

Step inside and be prepared for more stop-stare moments. Combining all the character and charm of its long history with the modern amenities of a modern hotel, it offers a range of fabulous spaces and features including beautifully painted ceilings and stained glass windows as well as 43 newly renovated bedrooms.

You can marry in the Oak Room and celebrate afterwards with a wedding breakfast for up to 108 people or for an al-fresco ceremony, say ‘I do’ in the Formal Garden Squares. The venue can host up to 200 reception guests in either the Library, Oak Room or, for more intimate gatherings, the Morning Room is ideal. There’s a wealth of great photo opportunities throughout, including outside in the newly planted orchard alongside the River Hart and the beautiful formal gardens.

Five tips on how to ensure your caterer is acting sustainably

Five tips on how to ensure your caterer is acting sustainably

A typical British wedding produces one third of a metric tonne of solid waste and 14.5 tons of carbon dioxide in one day. To put that into perspective, annual carbon emissions per capita in the UK are around 9.1 tonnes. A large percentage of the waste comes from catering. In fact, an average of £488 worth of food is wasted at every wedding. There is a pressing need for change in how we approach weddings, keeping them fun, beautiful and memorable yet responsible.

Fortunately, more people today are turning to sustainable options, and this trend is here to stay.
Aiming to have a sustainable wedding catering experience does not mean sacrificing luxury and quality – it means catering wisely and creatively. You do not need to forfeit your personal taste and unique preferences when envisioning an environmentally conscious wedding.
Tania Burton, the founder of a sustainable, family-run luxury wedding and event catering business Ginger Snap (https://www.ginger-snap.co.uk/), shares 5 ways to ensure your wedding catering is delicious and beautifully presented without harming the environment:
