Christmas has always been a big deal in our house; holly and ivy trailing from every crevice, a real tree (you can’t beat the natural fir-tree scent) and all the trimmings. There was a time when I was hell-bent on making everything myself from the cards to the present tags, and holly wreaths to table decorations, and that’s without even starting on the food. One year I toiled into the early hours making my own chocolate truffles only to realise Thorntons do it better!
Now I’m older and wiser, I try to be kinder to myself and let go of many of the tasks that cause me unnecessary stress. The things I’m good at, like knocking up untold batches of mince pies and making a mean turkey soup, remain on my to-do list, but now I’m determined to allow more time for enjoying other things, like celebrating with friends and family, enjoying a glass of fizz or three!
It’s a bit like a wedding really; playing to your strengths and not sweating the small stuff is always sound advice, and something I’ve certainly taken to heart. This time of year offers a wealth of opportunity to get creative with the décor and venue styling, but often it pays to call in the experts to save time, stress or costly mistakes.

Emirates Spinnaker Tower
This local landmark is hard to beat if you’re on the hunt for a wedding venue with a difference. Situated on the waterfront at Gunwharf Quays, the impressive viewing tower stands proud looking out over the seascape. It offers amazing 350-degree panoramic views, stretching for up to 23 miles out across the Solent, the south coast and across to the Isle of Wight; breathtaking by day and a glittering sea of lights at night.
Ceremonies take place on View Deck 2, located 105 metres above sea level. A bright, modern setting it provides a stunning backdrop with space for up to 70 people. Celebrate afterwards with a reception for up to 100 guests on View Deck 1. With floor-to-ceiling windows, the views are amazing and you and your guests can enjoy the thrill of walking across the glass floor sky walk set in the centre of the room, 100 metres above sea level.
The Waterfront Cafe on the ground floor boast fabulous views and is the perfect place to party. With space for up to 200 people you can have a disco or live music and even the tower’s lighting can be changed to bathe the harbour in a colour of your choice for your special day.
