May/June 2020

Happy birthday to us! This is our 80th edition and although we were hoping for an all-bells-and-whistles celebration, these are extraordinary times so instead we’re raising a virtual glass of fizz to toast our landmark anniversary.

We’ve all been working from home and staying in touch, talking to local suppliers and keeping everyone updated via our website and social media. During lockdown it’s been inspiring to hear how people have been rallying and reaching out to help others. Venues, bridal boutiques, cake makers, florists and all the many businesses in the wedding community have been doing their bit, helping anxious couples who are having to reschedule their big day. Despite the challenges we’re all facing, one thing’s for sure, there will still be weddings, beautiful dresses will be worn, cake cut, speeches made and photos taken, and we’ll be here to record and share it all with you, to help and inspire you for when your day comes.

This issue we’ve taken a virtual tour of the region, spotlighting some of the wonderful wedding venues in the picturesque New Forest from page 15 and dipping into romantic locations by the waterside on page 21. There’s a three-page gallery of amazing cakes, starting from page 47 as well as a wealth of tips and advice from local experts covering everything from dressing the bridal party and beauty tips to latest fashion, bridal trends and more.

Enjoy reading and stay safe!

Nothe Fort

If you’re on the hunt for something out of the ordinary for your big day, this is it. Weymouth’s historic Nothe Fort on the Jurassic coast is perched on a promontory overlooking the sea. Built by the Victorians to protect Portland Harbour, it’s steeped in history and is one of the best preserved forts of its kind. The setting and photo opportunities are second to none with 360° panoramic views of the bay and harbour. Built on three levels it’s surrounded by the beautiful Nothe Gardens full of trees, shrubs and winding paths.

Licensed for weddings you can marry in the Engine Room with up to 80 guests. For more intimate gatherings there are a host of quirky spaces for your ’I dos’ including the Gun Deck, Lookout and the Search Light which can accommodate up to six people with 50 more seated on the terrace. After tying the knot, head off to the Fort View Cafe to celebrate or if you’ve invited a crowd, you can host a marquee reception on the Parade Ground with 250 family and friends. The Fort Artillery will even perform a special firing of the canon in your honour.
