Firstly, welcome to this edition and a whole new decade! If you've started 2020 with a sparkly new ring on your finger – congratulations, the journey starts here! The festive season delivered a flood of newly engaged couples with more to come after Valentine's Day and with spring around the corner, love is in the air and there's a buzz of expectation. It’s not just the engagement ring that’s in the spotlight, we showcase a whole range of jewellery and accessories to make your big day shine, starting on page 63.
We’re excited for all the fabulous spring and summer weddings to come and although the first green shoots may still seem a way off, we’re already swooning over gorgeous bridal gowns blooming with pretty floral details (page 71).
However, while the long winter nights are still with us, now is the perfect time to get cracking with the planning. Doing your homework is vital, so when the weather’s frosty outside, you can cosy up with your other half to browse the pages of this issue. Packed full of wedding loveliness, it’s a treasure trove of ideas including three fabulous photo shoots showcasing the talents of local creatives right on your doorstep. Don’t forget to save the details of all your favourite things to create a moodboard or Instagram story. Your suppliers will love you for it, as it makes their job so much easier if they can share your big-day vision.

| Let it snow |

Avington Park
If you’re looking for a historic backdrop for your big day, Avington Park is a must-see. Dating back to the 10th century, it was even mentioned in the Domesday Book. Be prepared for plenty of stop-stare moments from the moment you arrive through the wrought-iron gateway, down the long avenue of lime trees to catch your first glimpse of the house. With two conservatories flanking a pillared orangery, the family home has all the grace and elegance of a fine country mansion.
Set in peaceful secluded grounds, with lawns bordering the River Itchen, it’s a picturesque scene all year round. Magical in winter with a dusting of snow, there are a host of impressive rooms inside. The beautifully decorated Main Hall with its marbled pillars and grand fireplace leads into the Library, a warm and inviting space with leather-bound books, a log fire, grand piano and views on to the south lawn. The opulent Ballroom, on the first floor boasts a magnificently painted ceiling and gold plasterwork, huge mirrors and stunning views across the park.
Full of grandeur it provides a romantic backdrop for ceremonies with up to 100 guests and in December there’s a Christmas tree decked with twinkling lights to add to the atmosphere. All three rooms are licensed for ceremonies, as well as the Conservatory, a glass house full of exotic plants. Fully heated it’s ideal for intimate ‘I dos’ with up to 25 loved ones. The versatile space can be used in a number of ways, as extra space for the reception, the evening bar, for the top table or displaying the wedding cake. Combined with the adjoining Library, you can host a reception for 100 seated guests and the room can be turned around later for the evening celebration with space for entertainment and a band. Larger wedding parties can be hosted in a marquee adjoining the Library.
