November/December 2020

Personally I love this time of year; nights in snuggled around an open fire, mulled wine simmering on the hob, and old films on the TV. I’m a great fan of ‘hygge’, a Danish ethos that, loosely translated, is all about simplifying things and enjoying the moment, bringing a mix of cosiness, charm and comfort into our lives. Not just for Christmas, but a great idea for everyday life and never more relevant than in the current challenging times.

With many couples having to postpone their weddings, some have decided to tie the knot regardless and have a full-on party later once restrictions have eased. Intimate weddings have always been an option and can be just as special as large-scale affairs, particularly in the winter, with romantic candlelight and a wealth of cosy indoor wedding spaces available at venues across the region. Downsizing your wedding plans doesn’t have to mean compromising on the look and feel of your day. What’s more, we’re here to help you navigate the hurdles and plan your day, your way, with useful tips and advice from local experts on page 88.

Photographers from Hampshire and Dorset are celebrating the season too with a gallery of wonderful winter wedding shots to share, starting on page 55. As well as all the regular features, this issue is packed with the latest bridal fashion, beauty tips, honeymoons, inspiration and more. Have a very merry Christmas, see you in 2021!

The Kings Arms

If you can’t decide between traditional or contemporary style for your big day, this distinctive venue blends the old with the new to provide the best of both worlds. Set in the heart of Christchurch, the hotel enjoys fabulous views of Christchurch Castle, the town’s priory and Avon River.

Opposite the main building, the hotel has its own traditional bowling green and pavilion, which has been lovingly restored, into a beautiful New England style-wedding venue. A bright and airy space, the French doors open on to a private veranda, allowing the sunlight to flood in as you exchange vows watched by up to 96 guests. Afterwards, stroll across the lawns for a chilled drinks reception and enjoy some outdoor garden games before hosting a private reception in the Kings Priory Suite. With its own private bar and dancefloor, it can host up to 200 people for the evening do.

Five tips for flawless foundation

Top make-up artist Jen Gooding specialises in e-commerce and editorial make-up, as well as bridal. Here are her top five tips for flawless foundation application. 1) Prep. To make sure you are getting the most out of your foundation application, preparing the skin is the most important part. The key is to make sure your moisture levels in the skin are on top, to do this I recommend introducing a hyaluronic acid serum into your skin care routine, This adds more hydration as it draws moisture into crepey skin, try 'The Inkey List - Hyaluronic Acid Serum'.
