November/December 2019

Is it just me or does Christmas come round earlier every year? In this job, it certainly seems like it. We’ve been thinking all things festive for months now, so much so, that by the time it does finally arrive, my head’s already full of thoughts of spring.

I do love this time of year though; nights in snuggled around an open fire, mulled wine simmering on the hob, and old films on the TV. I’m a great fan of ‘hygge’, the Danish ethos which, loosely translated, is all about simplifying things and enjoying the moment, bringing a mix of cosiness, charm and comfort into your life. Not only great for the every day, it’s brilliant for de-stressing the wedding planning. To avoid getting overwhelmed by the to-do list, take time out together or with family and friends and declare it a wedding-free zone. Let go of the reins and share the load, there’s sure to be some willing volunteers itching to help. Try not to sweat the small stuff and enjoy the journey; it’s the best route to becoming the relaxed radiant bride of your dreams. What’s more, we’re here to help you navigate the hurdles and plan your day, you way, with useful tips and advice on page 57.

We’ve got a Santa’s sackful of festive inspiration for winter weddings too, and help from local experts on page 101. So put your feet up, relax and enjoy!

Durlston Castle

If you’re dreaming of a castle as the backdrop for your big day, look no further. Set within the Country Park, the renovated Durlston Castle is an idyllic location for a magical wedding. With woodland on one side of the historic Victorian building and clifftop views out over Durlston Bay on the other, it’s not hard to see why couples choose to get married here. Both the Gallery and glass-sided Belvedere on top of the castle are licensed for ceremonies. The Belvedere can host up to 50 people and is ideal for intimate ‘I dos’ with post-vows drinks on the rooftop terrace afterwards.

The Gallery with its modern Purbeck limestone and wood interior offers magnificent sea views and can host up to 120 loved ones.
You can tie the knot here and enjoy exclusive use of the extensive patio and grassed amphitheatre; ideal for the wedding breakfast and reception.
