The bridal beauty countdown guide

The bridal beauty countdown guide

The average engagement is just over a year. That gives you plenty of time to look the best version of yourself before you walk down the aisle. To help you schedule everything in we’ve asked our team of experts to weigh in on what appointments you need to book and exactly when to do it…

Eight months to go

Visit your dermatologist and tackle any skin concerns

If you have any skin concerns on your body or face like acne scarring, pigmentation or stretch marks, its best to get the situation under control well in advance. Kate Whitling, Non-Surgical Manager at the Harley Medical Group explains why: “when addressing any skin concerns this would be the time, we would suggest to start treating them with topicals at home.”

Kate has provided a simple guide to help you narrow down your skins needs before the big day:

ACNE PRONE SKIN

Kate Whitling explains “four weeks of skin preparation with the DermaClear range will start to draw out any impurities, and will nourish the skin to be in a good state to begin treatment. We would then recommend a course of DermaQuest Salicylic Acid Resurfacer which will help reduce oil production and calm inflammation. We would suggest four weeks between each treatment, and allow 4 weeks post final treatments as there may be some tweaks to your regime as your skin becomes more tolerant”

DRY SKIN

“DermaQuest Hydrating B5 Serum will nourish, hydrate and rebuild your skin barrier which has been compromised. You don’t necessarily need moisture but you need hydration, so this will help pre-treatment. Once your skin integrity is repaired then a course of DermaQuest C-Infusion Peel will exfoliate away dead skin cells, hydrate and repair your skin barrier”

COMBINATION

“Like most skin concerns, starting with a good regime is key but combination skins can be tricky. Oily noses, dry cheeks with breakouts. We need to hydrate the skin and reduce the sebum production as the same time. Dermaclear Pads are great to address the oil control and stem cell rebuilding will help repair and strengthen the skin. A course of 3 DermaQuest Pumpkin Resurfacers will really help nourish and hydrate and give the skin a really lovely natural glow.”

FINE LINES + WRINKLES

“Start with a targeted serum such as the DermaQuest Stem Cell 3D Hydrafirm Serum this will give an instant boost to dull, ageing skin. Two-four weeks of home care will prepare the skin for a course of DermaQuest Anti-Ageing Peptide TCA Peels to reduce fine lines and wrinkles along with stimulating collagen growth”

NORMAL

“Every skin needs a good product regime to help combat aging from UV, pollution and stress. Allow 4 weeks minimum on a really good DermaQuest skin care regime to allow your skin to get used to the active ingredients and start to look nourished and glowing. Derma FNS is a fantastic all round rejuvenation treatment with minimal downtime – you can do it in your lunch hour! Perfect when you are stuck for time due to wedding planning!”

Dr. Justine Hextall, Consultant Dermatologist, on behalf of The Harley Medical Group adds: “an aggressive facial just before the wedding is a big no-no. Depending on the facial, it could take days (even weeks) for the redness to full subside. In order to achieve maximum results, one often needs a series of facial treatments to see the full effect and there is often at least a 2 week break between each treatment. I also always advise fastidious sun avoidance before, during and after such treatments to prevent unwanted skin hyperpigmentation.”

6 MONTHS PRIOR

Get rid of unwanted hair

When you are only one week away from the big day the last thing you want to think about is those pesky unwanted hairs. Kate Whitling suggests a course of Laser Hair Removal and explains why “Shaving before your wedding day will cause a drying effect on your skin. This is especially a problem if you have booked yourself in for a tan - so throw away the razor! Laser Hair removal means silky smooth, no need to shave and no uncomfortable ingrown hairs. Bikini line, underarm and legs – you can laser pretty well anywhere. We would suggest a minimum of 6 treatments, 6 weeks apart and would recommend staying out the sun so treatments are not interrupted and you’ll the best results”

Start addressing your diet

With plenty of time before the big day, now is the time to start considering a healthy diet, for body and skin health. Helen Bond, Nutritionist on behalf of The Harley Medical Group shares what you should be incorporating on the run up to the day: “Along with drinking plenty of water, plant-based foods - especially colourful fruits, green leafy veg, and low GI carbohydrates, beans and pulses, nuts and seeds are your skin’s secret weapons. Now would be the best time to remove processed, refined sugary foods from your diet, not only harmful to our teeth and potentially our waistline, but increasingly there seems to be evidence that sugar could be damaging to our skin. However, the foods mentioned above, are brimming with skin-friendly nutrients, healthy unsaturated fats to help maintain a healthy skin barrier, and are the best source of antioxidants, such as vitamin C, vitamin E, copper, zinc, manganese and selenium that can help neutralise the effect of harmful free radicals.”

One-two months to go

Guarantee a sweat-free wedding

If you are planning a summer wedding the last thing you want to worry about is sweating on your wedding day. Kate Whitling tells us how to tackle the problem, “botox under the arms is a really effective way of reducing excessive sweating, this treatment starts to take effect seven-ten days post treatment and generally lasts between three-six months.”

Final body prep for the wedding and honeymoon

Have any fat in stubborn areas that just won’t budge right before the big day? ProMax Lipo may be your solution. This non-invasive, painless body contouring treatment reduces fat in stubborn areas such as your inner thighs, arms and chin. The treatment mimics your body’s natural fat reduction process by depleting fat cells and breaking down triglycerides for the body to use as immediate energy, rather than blasting/removing them. This is a much safer and more gentle alternative to other liposuction/body sculpting treatments, with no recovery time!
