September/October 2018

Phew! What a scorcher it’s been, with recording-breaking temperatures and endless sunny rain-free days. Not your typical English summer, but a dream for all the happy couples who tied the knot this year under cloudless blue skies. We’ve loved seeing all your amazing photos of glorious beach weddings around the region, summer wedfests and al fresco celebrations. So much so, that we now have not two, but three real weddings in every issue, full of local suppliers to inspire you. Turn to page 41 for the first of this issue’s trilogy and don’t forget to get in touch for the chance to have your big day featured in the magazine, simply visit the website yourhampshiredorset.wedding

Personally although I love soaking up the sun, autumn with all its ‘mists and mellow fruitfulness’ is my favourite season. It’s a wonderfully evocative time of year, perfect for taking time out from the wedding planning to enjoy the great outdoors before the bleak winter weather kicks in.

There’s rich pickings to be had too for those on the hunt for the big day décor. Hampshire and Dorset are blessed with wonderful countryside and forests, so why not grab your partner, pull on your wellies and head out? Be inspired by the russet hues of falling leaves and rich berry tones of seasonal fruits. Make the most of nature’s bounty, shiny conkers, acorns, twigs, brambles and feathers for a wealth of material. Think ornamental gourds in different colours and sizes, pumpkins and richly coloured autumn blooms like dahlias and chrysanthemums for your floral arrangements – and don’t miss our showcase of seasonal ideas and kaleidoscope of autumnal shades, starting on page 37.

Happy reading!

The Station Kitchen

Foodie fans are in for a treat at this quirky reception venue in Dorset. Set on the edge of the old West Bay platform, the beautifully restored station and railway carriage is an original setting that’s hard to beat. Steeped in history, the carriage dates back to WWI when it was used to transport injured troops back from the Battle of the Somme. Now enjoying a whole new lease of life, it’s been transformed into a destination hotspot, perfect for intimate wedding receptions with space to seat up to 60 guests. The first Bridport restaurant by the award-winning catering company Sausage & Pear, it has earned a growing reputation for delicious food using fresh locally sourced produce.

Although it’s not licensed for ceremonies, there are local churches and Bridport register office nearby. The perfect place for an intimate celebration, you and your loved ones can kick back and enjoy killer cocktails on the platform or in the station house before boarding the carriage for a feast to remember.
